It started in 1983 as a jam session between Duncan Jones and Paul Armfield at a party, together tonight with Dave, Mark, Jamie, Carl and Guy Isle of Wight Legends Bobby i can fly have reunited and returned to their home soil to play for an exited bunch of old friends and new faces for a farewell gig and what a gig it is to!
The crowd cannot get enough of their uplifting bass driven faux-jazz/pop/rock combo! The crowd, are a mixture of ages, already buzzing with excitement, some of whom are hitting the late 70’s mark and who have been here all afternoon drinking and reminiscing, dance and sing along to every song. The band themselves are playing with more energy than a bunch of 20 somethings with a point to prove, Bobby I Can Fly have nothing to prove as their music speaks for itself! They plough through 20+years worth of greatest hits such as Mellow, Hollywood and Sailors Blue (and even treated us with an new song ‘a little bit of sunshine’) with as much passion as they did at their first gig on this very Isle more than 25 years ago!
The smiles on everybody’s faces show this is a well loved group of musicians who will be surely missed but remembered with fondness and love. Any band wanting to know how its done should take a leaf out of bobby i can fly’s extensive book, they leave behind a legacy of friendship, great tunes and the blue prints of great songwriting!
