On May 4th 2016 Ryde well and truly Rocked. A new night for Ryde in connection with Platform One raising money for the Bestival Foundation – founded to help with social, environmental and charitiable projects on the Isle of Wight.
There were 4 gigs in total taking place on the night all for the same cause, I went to the King Lud to support ULX’s very own Bobbin Dixon in his new band ‘Bobbin And The Babymakers’.
The pub was packed to the rafters, amazing for a Wednesday night. Bobbin And The Babymakers followed on from Cobra Trio (a well loved rock cover band, known on the Islands pub music scene).
Bobbin is a strong vocalist with a lot of power, he sang along side bassist Joshie Adams, guitarist Seb Clark and drummer Dani-Luke Day. They played some well loved covers such as Guns N Roses ‘Welcome to The Jungle’, Franz Ferdinand ‘Take Me Out’ and Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Take The Power Back’ as well as some lesser known songs from bands such as CLutch and Slave. Everyone was loving it singing along and moshing along. They ended on a jumped up rock version of ‘Karma Chameleon’ followed by ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ as requested.
It was a fun night, and a great turn out. For a band that’s only played 3 times they’re very together and well rehearsed with an already very large following! I expect to see alot more of them soon!
